Are you ready to hike?
our top tips for a happy hiking holiday

We are back on Italian soil after a brief visit to the UK to celebrate a landmark birthday and our home in Tuscany is looking gorgeous - waving green wheat fields, wild flowers and vineyards just coming to life.   If you are walking with us this season then we have some top tips for getting ready for your holiday, and there is no doubt that a little work on your fitness before you set off will increase your enjoyment of the hikes.  We also take a closer look at Umbria, where our tour will return in May 2019, and explore the concept of the "scattered hotel" which is taking Italy by storm.

Don't forget that bookings for 2019 are going strong and that it is not too early to express your interest for next year as some tours are filling fast.   We have had some problems with our Australian telephone line so please email us if you would like more information or wish to discuss a tour:

We can't wait to get started again in Italy and look forward to another great year of food, wine and walking!

Under the Umbrian sun
This month's regional guide looks at Umbria, where next year our tour will return at the end of May.
Known as the "green heart" of Italy, Umbria has no coastline but a lush landscape of vines, woods and olive groves. Home to St Francis of Assisi the region is full of timeless towns which house some of Italy's most important artworks and, each year, host stunning historical festivals.

The rise of the "scattered hotel" in Italy
A movement to renovate derelict villages to encourage tourism is on the up across Italy.

Crumbling villages are finding a new way to attract visitors. Hotels which are "scattered" through different historic buildings in these small communities are bringing life back to the economy and the local residents.
